The ski doos in Val Thorens are run by Val Tho Motoneige.

You can explore some of the pistes in Val Thorens by snowmobile in the early evening. Either go solo and drive for the full hour, or share a ski doo with the option to change drivers half way through.

Val Thorens Ski Doos: the Outing

The ski doos in Val Thorens (snowmobiles) are based at the Chalet Motoneige, Rond Point des Pistes.

They offer one-hour guided ski doo rides on a circuit of around 20km on the pistes. There's a guide on the lead ski doo, and usually five or six ski doos driven by participants, following.

The ski doos are Yamaha Venture Lites, 500cc, 4 gears, fitted with coloured 'light sabres', which identify which snowmobile is with which guide, and make them more visible from a distance.

Times

The times of ski doo rides in Val Thorens:

• 5.30pm
• 6.45pm and
• 7.55pm

Double-check the times at the Chalet Motoneige when you are in resort, because they may vary slightly according to the opening times of the lifts in early/late season.

The Chalet Motoneige is open for bookings:

• Mon-Fri 10am-12 noon and 2-8pm
• Sat & Sun 4-7pm

Prices

The 2023-24 rates are:

• €160 per ski doo (one person or two)
• €80 to ride as the guide's passenger

Conditions

Conditions:

• driver must be 18 years old and hold a driving licence
• minimum age for a passenger 8 years old

Val Thorens Ski Doos: Rules and Recommendations

A few of the rules and recommendations:

• warm clothing and gloves required, with glasses or goggles
• no ski boots
• helmet compulsory (supplied)
• no overtaking, no 'slaloming', no drink-driving
• leave a safe distance to the ski doo in front
