The Hotel Altapura is owned by the Sibuet Maisons & Hotels group, which also has Les Fermes de Marie in Megève, the Cour des Loges in Lyon, and the Villa Marie at St Tropez.
The hotel's architecture stands out in Val Thorens, where almost all the buildings are a modern version of an Alpine chalet. The Altapura looks a little different: the hotel's website says, 'As a connoisseur of a certain way of life and appreciative of beautiful things, you will fall under the spell of this 5-star hotel. Spacious, elegant areas bring to mind the flair of luxury palace hotels, the atmosphere is Nordic-chic with a choice of noble materials such as wood and stone.'
The Altapura has a concierge service, and a Goitschel ski shop on site.
Hotel Altapura, Val Thorens: location
The Hotel Altapura is at the bottom of the resort of Val Thorens, at the foot of the Plein Sud piste. (Click on image above to see hotels location map).
The advantage of the location is ease of access to the slopes - you come straight out of the ski room onto the snow. From there, you can take the lower lifts - Plein Sud, Deux Lacs, Moutière, Boismint, or Caron - or go up on the Musaraigne magic carpet, allowing access to Cascades or Péclet. Similarly, you can ski right back to the hotel.
Another advantage of this location is that it's away from the bars and nightclubs, so you're
unlikely to be disturbed by late-night revellers. On the other hand, it
is a few minutes walk away if you want to visit the resort's shops,
bars
or restaurants. However, the hotel does have a free minibus shuttle
service.
