There are regular buses from Moutiers to Val Thorens. This is the winter timetable for the 2016/17 season (3rd November 2016 to 18th June 2017).
The journey takes 1h15, and costs €22.50 adult return. Book on the Transavoie website.
Ben's Bus run buses from Geneva to Val Thorens, on Saturdays from 3rd December 2016 to 22nd April 2017, and on Sundays from 11th December 2016 to 9th April 2017.
The rates are £46 single (but with a group discount, the fare is less, down to a minimum of £39.30), and £79.50 return (or less with a group discount, to a minimum of £69.50).
There are buses from Geneva airport to Val Thorens. The details below are for winter 2015/16, and will be updated for 2016/17 when the new timetable and prices are available.
Most of the services below run from 5th December 2015 to 9th April 2016, but some run between 28th/29th November 2015 and 17th/18th April 2016, while some are only from 19th December 2015 to 19th March 2016 - see full timetable for details.

You have to confirm the return journey 48 hours beforehand, at the bus station in place des Arolles, and when you do, they tell you the exact departure time. (It may be a minibus or taxi that takes you as far as Moutiers, depending on how many people there are). The times on Saturdays from Moutiers, and arriving at Geneva, are shown in the table below. From these, you can guess the approximate departure times from Val Thorens. The service on other days of the week is slightly different - see full timetable.

The age of children isn't specified, but in previous years, it was 4-12 years old; a group is four or more adults.
Ben's Bus run buses from Lyon airport to Val Thorens, on Fridays from 23rd December 2016 to 7th April 2017, on Saturdays from 17th December 2016 to 8th April 2017, and on Sundays from 18th December 2016 to 2nd April 2017 (but not on Christmas Day). There's also a special service to Val Thorens on Monday 26th December 2016, and back from Val Thorens on Monday 2nd January 2017.
The rates are £62.50 single, and £85.60-£97.80 return (exact rate depends on group size). There are also discounts for children under 12 (35% discount) and young people under 26 (13.5% discount).
There are buses from Lyon St Exupéry airport to Val Thorens, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Most services involve a change at Moutiers, but there are some direct services to Les Menuires/Val Thorens on Saturdays. Services start on Friday 16th December 2016, and run to Saturday 8th April 2017.
The table below shows the departure times. The arrival times are not provided by the bus company, but it generally takes 2 hours to Moutiers (where you may have to change buses), plus a further 1h15 to Val Thorens.

The 2016/17 rate is €73 adult single, €115 adult return. (Children 4-11 years €63 return, children under 4 years free; young persons 12-24 years €94 return). Prices are shown on the timetable.
The details below are for winter 2015/16, and will be updated for 2016/17 when the new timetable and prices are available. Scheduled buses run from Chambéry airport to Val Thorens, on Saturdays and Sundays, from Saturday 19th December 2015 (to Val Thorens only on 19th & 20th December) to Saturday 26th March 2016.

Ben's Bus run a weekend service from Grenoble airport to Val Thorens, on Saturdays from 10th December 2016 to 15th April 2017, and on Sundays from 18th December 2016 to 2nd April 2017. There's no bus on Christmas Day (Sunday 25th December 2016), but there are extra services from Grenoble to Moutiers on 26th & 27th December 2016, and from Moutiers to Grenoble on 2nd & 3rd January 2017. For the bus times, you have to enter your flight details on the Ben's Bus website.
Price £40.95-£46.80 adult single, £74.20-£84.80 adult return. The applicable rate depends on group size. 10% discount for under 12s. £5.50 surcharge on Sundays.

Val Thorens has a free resort shuttle bus, which runs from 8am to 8pm every day during the winter season. There are two loops - one up from the place des Arolles, serving the upper part of resort, and one down, serving the lower part of the resort.
There are also a small number of free shuttles between Val Thorens and Les Menuires, for walkers and cross-country skiers.
